FIRST ON THE BLOG (other than Jakle’s Jacuzzi at MySanAntonio.com – Home of The San Antonio Express News): If the booming expansion of local news in San Antonio were to stop, it would not be now. That’s because WOAI 4 will add more local news for San Antonians… this time, it will be on midday.
Starting on Monday January 25th, 2016, WOAI 4 will add a half-hour weekday midday newscast at 12:00 Noon with News 4 San Antonio at Noon. The newscast will fully compete against KENS 5 (CBS)’s KENS 5 Eyewitness News at Noon and the first half-hour of KSAT 12 (ABC)’s hour-long KSAT 12 News at Noon. WOAI 4’s sister station, KABB 29 (FOX), airs a half-hour midday broadcast at 11:00am with FOX 29 News Midday.
The newscast, which will deliver the traditional format of the latest news and weather, will be delivered by WOAI 4’s weekday morning news team: Michael Garofalo, Leslie Bohl and First Warning Weather from Meteorologist Jeannette Calle.
WOAI 4 and sister station KABB 29’s News Director, Blaise Labbe:
“News 4’s morning newscast has continued to grow significantly. In November, we were a solid No. 2 in total viewers, and No. 1 with adult viewers 18 to 49 and 25 to 54. We are excited to bring the News 4 brand of local news to noon as well. We continue to look for opportunities to serve our community, and this expansion does exactly that.”
PROGRAMMING NOTE: Because of the addition of a new noon newscast on WOAI 4, programming changes will be made:
- The Insider will move from sister station (through JSA and SSA with Deerfield Media) KMYS 35 (CW) at 1:00am to WOAI 4 at 12:30pm.
- Also starting Monday January 25th, Rachael Ray will move from its current noon slot on WOAI 4 to 8:00 a.m. on KMYS 35, replacing The Meredith Vieira Show.
So more local news is coming to San Antonio, thanks to WOAI 4. And for a station that is now #2 in total viewers, this is great news to hear.
