FIRST ON THE BLOG: This story is old but as they say… all old is new again. That’s what we have here. I first told you that KFOX 14 was going to add an 8:00am hour to its morning newscast, months ago. However, it was delayed when anchor changes were made. Now after all this time… its finally happening.
Starting Monday January 18th, 2016, KFOX 14 will expand its weekday morning newscast, the KFOX 14 Morning News by an hour. The newscast will soon add another hour from 8:00-9:00am in which afterwards, the program will now run from 5:00-9:00am. KFOX 14’s John Purvis (a mainstay and a veteran at the station) currently anchors the weekday morning newscast with Weather from the KFOX 14 Severe Weather Team by Meteorologist Brad Montgomery plus KFOX 14’s Beat the Traffic with Selena Madrigal, the latest in social media with Kezhal Dashti and LIVE overnight reports from Marcel Clarke.
With this, KFOX 14 will soon be home to the area’s only two hours of local morning news after 7:00am in the market. But this change is long overdue…
We originally reported back in August that the 8:00am hour was to debut in September, but it was put on hold because John Purvis soon moved to the morning newscast because former KFOX 14 anchor Stephanie Guardian left the station not too long ago. But it seems like the station has put everything ready in its place and will now start to offer an 8:00am hour, starting in January.
The 5:00-7:00am block competes against the BIG three in the market: KVIA 7 (ABC)’s ABC 7 News – Good Morning El Paso, KTSM 9 (NBC)’s NewsChannel 9 Today and KFOX 14’s sister station, KDBC 4 (CBS)’s CBS 4 News Daybreak. Again, KFOX 14 will soon be home to the area’s ONLY local news from 7:00-9:00am.
So even more local morning news is coming to The Borderland. Thank you KFOX 14 for making this happen and after much delay, as the say… let’s get on with the show.
