One duopoly is about to make local TV history in Mid-Missouri and it starts tomorrow…
For the first time in Mid-Missouri TV history, weekend morning news is coming.
Starting tomorrow, Saturday January 9th, KMIZ 17 will add two hours of weekend morning newscasts, one hour at 6:00am and another hour at 8:00am with the weekend editions of ABC 17 News This Morning. The newscasts will sandwich ABC’s Good Morning America in between at 7:00am. KMIZ 17’s sister station, KQFX 22 (FOX) will get in the mix as well…
… KQFX 22 will offer another NEW hour of the weekend morning newscast at 9:00am with ABC 17 News This Morning at 9:00am on FOX 22. In other words, KMIZ 17’s new weekend morning newscast will air from 6:00-7:00 and 8:00-10:00am with the 9:00am hour on KQFX 22. However, this is ironic, since KQFX 22 airs a repeat of KMIZ 17’s two-hour weekday morning newscast (ABC 17 News This Morning from 5:00-7:00am) on weekdays from 7:00-9:00am.
KMIZ 17 and KQFX 22’s General Manager, Curtis Varns:
“Mid-Missourians have shown an increasing appetite for local news and content and ABC 17 has responded over the years by expanding our offerings on air and on our digital platforms. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be able to bring live weather and news to time periods that are so important in people’s lives.”
The newscast will follow a format similar to ABC 17 News This Morning’s weekday newscast lineup including ABC 17 StormTrack Weather, every 10 minutes “on the 7s.”
So history is coming to Mid-Missouri television, tomorrow with weekend morning news on KMIZ 17 and KQFX 22. This is very exciting!
