FIRST ON THE BLOG: Once again, Nicholas Russo (Chief Meteorologist at WOAY in Bluefield, WV) has sent me another great tip and has kept me informed in West Texas TV news and this one is good. So good in fact that in less than two hours, primetime news is set to return to the Permian Basin.
Starting tonight, KMID 2 will add and air a weeknight-ONLY half-hour primetime newscast at 9:00pm on its sister station, KPEJ 24 (through an SSA with Marshall Broadcasting). FOX 24 News – First at 9:00 starts tonight and the Permian Basin will see a return of a primetime newscast to the market, the first one since KOSA 7 (CBS) canceled its primetime newscast on its second digital subchannel, KOSA 7.2 (MyTV – MyTV 16) back in August of last year.
The new primetime newscast on KPEJ 24 will utilize KMID 2’s news team and for this broadcast, it will be anchored by Jena Sands with Your Local Weather Authority from Chief Forecaster Horace Brown and Sports from sports director Jeff Eberle. Again, this will be weeknights ONLY as there will be no weekend edition from the start.
It’s good to see the Permian Basin getting their own local primetime newscast again. And I think KMID 2 has hit a home run with this addition. And thank you Nicholas for this amazing tip!
