WVLT is expanding its local news coverage by adding a 5:30 p.m. newscast.

WVLT-TV 8 / Knoxville (“Local 8 – Volunteer TV”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: WVLT is currently the last station in the Knoxville market to break away its early-evening news coverage at 5:30pm. But starting tomorrow, that all changes…

Starting tomorrow, Monday February 1st, WVLT 8 is adding a half-hour weeknight 5:30pm newscast. WVLT Local 8 News at 5:30 will become the third and the last station in the market to add a local newscast at 5:30pm in the market after WATE 6 (ABC)’s WATE 6 News at 5:30 and WBIR 10 (NBC)’s 10 News at 5:30. This tweet will confirm my report…

As you can see by this tweet, long-time WVLT 8 veteran Alan Williams and Brittany Nauta will anchor the new half-hour newscast and apparently, Brittany gets a promotion from Saturday mornings and that reporter Kelsey Leyrer will add “Anchor” to her duties as she will now anchor WVLT 8’s Saturday morning newscast from 6:00-8:00am. Local 8 Weather will come from AMS-CBM & NWA/Sealed Chief Meteorologist David Aldrich.

Before the new 5:30pm newscast, WVLT 8 used to air Inside Edition in its 5:30pm timeslot, which will now air on weeknights at 7:30pm after Entertainment TONIGHT at 7:00pm.

So more Knoxville news is coming. Thank you, Volunteer TV for offering more options for viewers across East Tennessee.
