WTXF expands and shifts its weekend “Good Day.”

WTXF-TV 29 / Philadelphia (“FOX 29”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG (other than The Philadelphia Enquirer at Philly.com): There’s been a small change at WTXF 29 involving its weekend morning newscast. And for Sundays, its been expanded.

Just recently, WTXF 29 has shifted its weekend morning newscast. The weekend edition of Good Day Philadelphia has now been shifted from 8:00-10:00am Saturdays and 8:00-9:00am Sundays to 7:00-9:00am on both weekend days, with Sundays being expanded by an another hour to start at 7:00am.

In terms of competition, the 7:00am hour competes against KYW 3 (CBS) on Sundays, WPVI 6 (ABC) on both Saturdays and Sundays, WCAU 10 (NBC) on Sundays and WFMZ 69 (Ind) on Saturdays. For the 8:00am hour, it competes against KYW 3 on Sundays.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, in addition to the regular features, there will be a renewed focus on news during the Sunday broadcast and that weekday Good Day Philadelphia personalities: Mike Jerrick, Alex Holley, Sue Serio and Bob Kelly, will continue to contribute the weekend morning newscast.

WTXF 29’s News Director, Jim Driscoll:

“Our viewers are part of the Good Day Philadelphia family. Expanding our weekend show by an hour and moving it to 7 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday gives our viewers the consistency they have asked for and deserve.  And having Mike, Alex Sue, Bob and the whole gang a part of it will make Good Day Philadelphia Weekend the same show our viewers love during the week.”

So yes, even weekend morning news can shift around and still remain on-air because it can be that good. And apparently yes, Good Day Philadelphia is that good.
