FIRST ON THE BLOG: In Southwest Louisiana, there is no local station offering a local primetime newscast. Starting next week, all of that will change.
KVHP 29, the local FOX affiliate owned by National Communications, Inc., is getting ready to offer a half-hour weeknight primetime newscast at 9:00pm, starting next Monday February 29th. The newscast, FOX 29 News at 9:00, will become the area’s ONLY locally-produced primetime newscast in the market as the area’s ONLY other local station with a news department, long-time #1 leader KPLC 7 (NBC), doesn’t offer a primetime newscast on any of its digital subchannels.
KVHP 29 has actually had a local newscast since 2012. Back in May of that year, the station started a half-hour weekday local newscast at 12:00 Noon called FOX 29 News Express. This newscast previously competed against KPLC 7’s half-hour noon newscast and was discontinued two weeks ago, to get ready for the primetime move to 9:00pm.
So finally, viewers in Southwest Louisiana will get a chance to receive local primetime news and I know they will enjoy this.
