If you think Boston doesn’t LOVE local news, it does. And starting in Mid-April, another Boston TV station will add another local newscast.
Starting in Mid-April, WFXT 25 will add an hour-long 4:00pm weekday newscast with FOX 25 News at 4:00. This joins WHDH 7 (NBC) at 4:00 and both WHDH 7 and WCVB 5 (ABC) at 4:30pm for local news at those timeslots in the market. This will give WFXT 25, a three-hour weekday local news block from 4:00-7:00pm and will become the ONLY local station in the market to do so.
WFXT 25 newcomer Blair Miller (who comes from WSOC 9 (ABC) in Charlotte) and WFXT 25 veteran Elizabeth Hopkins (who’s been there since 2o10) will anchor the new afternoon newscast. FOX 25 StormTracker Weather will be delivered by AMS-CBM/Sealed Chief Meteorologist Kevin Lemanowicz (who’s been at WFXT 25 since the beginning of their in-house news department, back in 1996).
According to TVSpy, WFXT 25’s news director Lee Rosenthal, told them the show will add “a number” of staff additions in the process, expanding the news team to make the station a much bigger presence.
This is the fourth such expansion in the market, this year! WCVB 5 got the ball rolling with 4:30 and 7:00pm half-hour weeknight newscasts in January and next week, it will add an hour-long 10:00pm nightly newscast on its second digital subchannel, Me-TV Boston. Then, WHDH 7 is expected to add a half-hour weeknight 7:00pm newscast on Monday March 7th. And now, this one coming in Mid-April. Plus, haven’t I forgotten to mention that the area also has 24-hour regional news, thanks to NECN = New England Cable News?
Oh what a time to be alive in Boston, ehh… ?
