WKBN is going to weekend mornings on April 2nd.

WKBN-TV 27 / Youngstown, OH (“WKBN 27”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: This is a HUGE exclusive to the blog and one that you won’t hear ANYWHERE ELSE. Not on TVSpy, not on TVNewsCheck, not on FTVLive, not on any of Youngstown’s newspapers or TV station website… NOWHERE.

Coming in April… WKBN goes to weekend mornings.

Starting Saturday April 2nd, WKBN 27 will be offering weekend morning newscasts for the very first time. The weekend editions of WKBN 27 First News This Morning will be aired on Saturdays from 6:00-8:00am, which will be followed by CBS This Morning: Saturday from 8:00-10:00am. On Sundays, the weekend morning newscast will be aired from 7:30-9:00am, which will be followed by CBS News Sunday Morning from 9:00-10:30am.

In terms of competition, it will compete against WFMJ 21 (NBC) at 6:00am on Saturdays but it will be all alone at 7:00am. On Sundays, it will compete against the second half-hour of WFMJ 21’s Sunday morning newscast at 7:00am while the 8:00am hour will be all alone to themselves.

The new weekend morning newscast will be anchored by Abbie Schrader, who joins Media General-owned WKBN 27 from Gray Television-owned WTAP 15 (NBC) in Parkersburg, WV – Marietta, OH. StormTeam 27 Weather forecasts will come from Meteorologist Alex George, who currently does weekend evening weather for the station. LIVE morning reports will be delivered by Christina Mullen, who’s also a MMJ for the station and Kevin Linger will produce the weekend morning newscasts, with whom he’s a MMJ himself too.

WKBN 27, WYFX 19 (FOX) and WYTV 33 (ABC)’s News Director, Mitch Davis:
