WNCN makes some changes into its weekend newscasts, now that its affiliated with CBS.

WNCN 17 / Goldsboro – Raleigh – Durham – Fayetteville (“CBS North Carolina”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: Now that WNCN is affiliated with CBS, changes were made to its weekend newscasts to reflect CBS programming.

On Saturdays, WNCN 17 has taken off the 9:00am hour of its Saturday morning newscast in favor of CBS’ E/I programming as well as the Saturday 7:00pm newscast in favor of Judge Judy. WNCN 17’s Saturday newscasts are an hour-long at 6:00am and two half-hours at 6:00 and 11:00pm. The 6:00am, 6:00 and 11:00pm newscasts compete against long-time leader WRAL 5 (now NBC) and WTVD 11 (ABC).

On Sundays, the morning newscast becomes three hours long as the 9:00am hour moves to 8:00am and is now aired from 6:00-9:00am, followed by CBS News Sunday Morning from 9:00-10:30am. Other than this, on Sundays, WNCN 17 also airs two half-hour newscasts at 6:00 and 11:00pm. The 8:00am hour makes its debut this Sunday, March 6th. The 6:00am hour competes against WTVD 11 while the 7:00am competes against both WTVD 11 and WRAL 5. The 8:00am hour also competes against WRAL 5 with the 6:00 and 11:00pm newscasts competing against WRAL 5 and WTVD 11, again.

No weekend changes were made to WRAL 5’s newscasts with the switch to NBC. All newscasts were kept in the same times that WRAL 5 has had them before.

Changes that had to be made, now that WNCN is CBS. At least you, the viewers to WNCN 17, now know what those changes are.

  1. I wonder if WILM-TV the CBS Affiliate in Wilmington still simulcasts WRAL newscasts now that WRAL is NBC or if WILM-TV switched to WNCN Newscasts?

  2. In a WMFL universe WRAL-TV 5 would be a WMFL owned TV station. Raleigh – Durham – Fayetteville: WRDF ** Channel 5 (Independent; WRDF News)
