KCCI is about to do something that plenty of their other sister stations already do… add a primetime newscast on their Me-TV subchannel. And now its Central Iowa’s turn.
Starting Monday March 21st, KCCI 8 will be launching a half-hour nightly newscast at 9:00pm on its second digital subchannel, currently known as Me-TV Des Moines with KCCI 8 News at 9:00 on Me-TV Des Moines. This newscast will compete against (the first half-hour on weeknights and entirely on weekends) KDSM 17 (FOX)’s long-running 9:00pm newscast which is currently produced by WHO 13 (NBC).
The weeknight newscast will be anchored by Shaina Humphries who will be making the move from weekday mornings (4:30-7:00am) to the new 9:00pm newscast. Sports will be delivered by sports director Andy Garman and StormTeam 8 Weather will come from AMS & NWA/Sealed Meteorologist Kurtis Gertz.
KCCI 8’s President and General Manager, Brian Sather:
“KCCI is committed to being Iowa’s News Leader and we want to make our number one coverage as available as possible to our viewers. We know people are looking for news all day long. So from our expanded, market leading newscasts to our online, social and mobile platforms, we are delivering the same high quality news and weather whenever and wherever our viewers want it.”
KCCI 8’s News Director Dave Busiek:
“We are very excited for an additional newscast at 9 p.m. At nine we will be taking viewers live to the scene of news as it is happening and report on what’s happening right now and continually updating viewers with the latest information, just like we do in our other newscasts.”
