KMAX now adds another local newscast, produced by KOVR. This time, weeknights at 6:30 p.m.

KMAX-TV 31 / Sacramento – Stockton – Modesto (“CW 31”)
KOVR 13 / Stockton – Sacramento – Modesto (“CBS 13”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: If you’re looking for another option for local news at 6:30pm in Sacramento, then you may have found it. Thanks KMAX and especially KOVR for this…

Since yesterday, Monday March 14th, KMAX 31 has added a half-hour weeknight newscast at 6:30pm. CBS 13 News at 6:30 on CW 31 competes against long-established and dominant #1 in the market, KCRA 3 (NBC)’s half-hour 6:30pm newscast for local news in that timeslot in the market. The newscast is anchored by Adrienne Moore (whom I remembered anchoring weekend news at WJXT 4 – Ind. in Jacksonville) with Weather from Meteorologist Dave Bender.

Notice the name of this newscast as now, both KMAX 31’s weeknight newscasts are now referred to as CBS 13 News on CW 31, giving further prominence that both evening newscasts are produced by their sister station, KOVR 13. Now, their 11:00pm weeknight newscast is also referred to as CBS 13 News at 11:00 on CW 31. The daily morning newscast, Good Day Sacramento remains separately produced by KMAX 31 since the morning newscast is aired from 4:30-10:00am weekdays and from 7:00-11:00am weekends plus the 5:00-7:00am hours ironically compete against sister station KOVR 13’s own morning newscast.

Even more local newscasts for KMAX 31, giving more prominence to the station since its carrying more local newscasts as well. The question is whether or not people will watch this newscast, so stay tuned.

  1. Back in the mid. 2000’s KMAX had a local newscast at 7:00pm called Good Evening Sacramento. I would also rank the Sacramento TV Market as a good TV Market with a good choice of TV stations that offer local news. KCRA, KXTV, KOVR, and KTXL, and even though KMAX news is produced by KOVR they have a good amount of news on KMAX and a even thought KQCA News is produced by KCRA there is a decent amount of news on KQCA.
