KLAF and KADN are ready to showcase its new news operation to all of Acadiana.

KLAF-LD 46 / Lafayette, LA (“Acadiana’s KLAF”)
KADN-TV 15 / Lafayette, LA (“FOX 15”)

After almost a year of planning and upgrading plus simulcasting local news from WVLA in Baton Rouge, KLAF is about to start fresh and debut a whole and fresh new news operation to Lousiana’s Acadiana region.

Starting tomorrow, Friday April 1st (this is no joke btw), KLAF 46 will finally debut its own local news operation at 5:00pm. The news operation will be branded as Acadiana’s KLAF News and will have its own newscasts, its own news team, weather team, etc. In terms of newscasts, KLAF 46 will debut its weeknight newscasts tomorrow and they will be the following, all for a half-hour: 5:00, 6:00, 9:00 (on sister station KADN 15) and 10:00pm. Saturday newscasts will come at just 6:00 and 10:00pm ONLY starting April 2nd and Sunday newscasts at just 5:00 and 10:00pm ONLY starting April 3rd. On Monday April 4th, KLAF 46 will then debut its 2-hour local morning newscast, Acadiana’s KLAF News Today, which will air weekday mornings from 5:00-7:00am. This all comes after Nexstar’s huge successful change in changing KLAF 46 (formerly a MyTV affiliate which can now be seen on KADN 15.3) into the market’s first-ever full-time local NBC affiliate (KPLC 7 in Lake Charles and WVLA 33 in Baton Rouge were NBC affiliates that served into Lafayette beforehand).

In terms of competition, all newscasts that KLAF 46 produces will be competing against KATC 3 (ABC/CW) and KLFY 10 (CBS) with the exception of the weeknight half-hour 9:00pm newscast on KADN 15 in which it will be the ONLY local newscast on at that timeslot in the area and the same can be said for their Sunday 5:00pm newscast as KATC 3 and KLFY 10 both air their Sunday early evening newscast at 5:30pm.

KLAF 46 and KADN 15’s Vice President and General Manager, Tom Poehler on the news launch:

“Following the successful launch of the market’s first NBC-affiliated station on KLAF-TV last summer, we are once again raising our commitment to local viewers and advertisers with the debut of our new locally-produced news programming, broadcast live in full high definition (HD) from our new state-of-the-air Lafayette (Eraste Landry Road) facilities. Our dedicated employees at KLAF NBC LOcal and KADN FOX 15 have a strong history of responding to the needs of the people and communities of Lafayette/Acadiana and the launch of our full-coverage local news programming is an extension of that legacy. This is a very exciting time for KLAF-KADN and our local viewers as the expansion will increase our locally-produced news, lifestyle, sports, weather and community programming to over 22 hours per week, with 24/7 access to additional compelling local content online at CajunFirst.com. Importantly, the expansion of our news programming reflects our unwavering commitment to delivering superior local news, entertainment programming and exclusive content to local viewers while offering businesses and advertisers unparalleled marketing opportunities across all screens and devices. We are grateful for the tremendous support and positive feedback we have received from the local community about our planned local news expansion and look forward to the upcoming launch on April 1.”

Nexstar said its investment to expand the operations’ local news programming, hire additional news personnel and fully upgrade all aspects of the stations’ technical infrastructure “highlights the company’s organization-wide commitment to broadcasting excellence and enhanced service to local communities, viewers and advertisers.”

KLAF 46 and KADN 15 will continue to be available on the same cable, satellite and over-the-air channels as today. Nothing will change there.

So to recap… here’s the initial newscast schedule for Acadiana’s KLAF News with Monday as the full day launch of the news department:

  2. Hmm it appears like your site ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum
it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything.
Do you have any recommendations for novice blog writers?

    I’d definitely appreciate it.

    • This sounds like a spam comment but it’s not. Thanks for asking.
