FIRST ON THE BLOG: Some very small changes have taken place at both coasts of this country. One in the Eastern Time Zone and the other in the Pacific Time Zone. I’m listing this as minor changes because I don’t have much more details than what I’m about to report on.
First up in the East, WOLO 25 has moved its 12:30pm weekday half-hour newscast back to 12:00 Noon. ABC Columbia News at Noon is back up a half-hour and basically reverses timeslots with The Andy Griffith Show, which now airs at 12:30pm. WOLO 25 was broadcasting at 12:00 Noon until last year when it was moved down to 12:30pm to air Andy Griffith as a possible alternative to WIS 10 (NBC) and WLTX 19 (CBS)’s half-hour noon newscasts. However, it has swapped the timeslots and now does compete against WIS 10 and WLTX 19 at 12:00 Noon in the Columbia market.
And now, the West and KPIX 5 in the San Francisco Bay Area. The station has moved its 5:30pm half-hour weekend newscast to 5:00pm and swaps timeslots with the newly-reformatted CBS Weekend News and this has now led to the 6:30pm half-hour newscast being expanded to a full hour and now on weekends, just like weekdays, KPIX 5’s early-evening newscasts now air from 5:00-5:30pm and 6:00-7:00pm. In other words, this is what it looks like on KPIX 5, 7 days a week:
- 5:00-5:30 PM: KPIX 5 News at 5:00
- 5:30-6:00 PM: CBS Evening News (weeknights) / CBS Weekend News (weekends)
- 6:00-7:00 PM: KPIX 5 News at 6:00
In terms of competition, KPIX 5 now competes against KGO 7 (ABC) and KNTV 11 (NBC) at 5:00pm on weekends while the first half-hour at 6:00pm competes against KTVU 2 (FOX), KGO 7 and KNTV 11 with the second half-hour at 6:30pm being all alone by themselves. KPIX 5, KGO 7 and KNTV 11 now all air their network newscasts, CBS, ABC and NBC respectively, every single night at 5:30pm. KRON 4 (MyTV) doesn’t air an early-evening weekend newscast at all.
That’s all the changes I have to report for you today. If any more, the blog will let you know.
