Few changes to weekend morning news across two stations (WJXT and WJAX) in The First Coast.

WFOX-TV 30 / Jacksonville (“FOX 30”)
WJAX-TV 47 / Jacksonville (“CBS 47”)
WJXT 4 / Jacksonville (“Channel 4”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: A few changes that I’ve happened to notice involving weekend morning newscasts at two stations in The First Coast (Jacksonville and Brunswick, GA)

Just recently, WFOX 30 has allowed WJAX 47 to air at least two hours of their Sunday morning newscast. Action News Jax This Morning now airs on both stations on Sunday mornings from 7:00-9:00am and it serves as a prelude to FOX News Sunday with Chris Wallace on WFOX 30 and CBS News Sunday Morning on WJAX 47. However, the 6:00am hour is still ONLY seen on WFOX 30 as WJAX 47 shows public affairs programming instead, which includes Matter of Fact with Fernando Espuelas at 6:00am followed by Action News Jax Sunday, the two stations’ Sunday public affairs show at 6:30am.

In terms of competition, the 7:00-9:00am block competes against WJXT 4 (Ind)’s The Morning Show, which also airs on Sunday mornings from 7:00-9:00am and the 7:00am hour also competes against WTLV 12 (NBC)’s Sunday morning newscast, Good Morning Jacksonville. WFOX 30 continues to solely air its Saturday morning edition of Action News Jax This Morning from 6:00-10:00am.

Speaking of WJXT 4… the station has added another hour to its Saturday morning newscast. News 4 Jax at 6:00am is now seen on Saturday mornings as well and it serves as a prelude to the Saturday morning edition of The Morning Show which airs from 7:00-10:00am, making the entire Saturday morning broadcast aired from 6:00-10:00am. In terms of competition, it competes in full against WFOX 30 for local news during that entire block in the market. On Sunday mornings, WJXT 4 continues to remain on-air for just two hours from 7:00-9:00am as it airs religious programming beforehand and afterwards as well as airing its Sunday half-hour public affairs show, This Week in Jacksonville at 9:00am.

No changes from duopoly WTLV 12/WJXX 25 (ABC). But these changes are now noticed and so, now you know.

  1. I wonder if any of the TV stations in the Jacksonville TV Market will get local news at 4:00pm? The Jacksonville TV Market is one of the few large TV Markets without 4:00pm news. Columbus, OH and Austin are the other large TV Markets I could think of without 4:00pm newscasts unless you count Time Warner Cable Newz Austin as having 4:00pm news.

  2. In a WMFL universe Jacksonville would have a WMFL owned TV station. In a WMFL universe the FOX station in Jacksonville would be WFCT-TV 7. “Jacksonville: WFCT ** Channel 7 (FOX; FOX 7 News)”
