Newscasts debuting this week.. Edition #49.

An interesting week of local newscasts that will debut this week. Three in the very busy market in Los Angeles and another in the much smaller market of Savannah. Here’s that list.

Monday May 30th, 2016 (Memorial Day 2016)

  • 11:00 AM-12:00 PM: NBC 4 News Midday
  • 4:00-5:00 PM: NBC 4 News at 4:00

KNBC in Los Angeles. The station moves its midday newscast from 12:00 Noon to 11:00am and just in time because NBC’s tape-delayed west coast coverage of the 2016 French Open will air from 12:00 Noon-3:00pm tomorrow. And KNBC 4 will debut its hour-long 4:00pm newscast , initially as only a 30-minute broadcast due to NBC Nightly News airing at 4:30pm followed by 2016 Stanley Cup Finals Game 1 Coverage. It will air in its traditional hour-long format, the next day on Tuesday May 31st.

Tuesday May 31st, 2016

  • 3:00-4:00 PM: ABC 7 Eyewitness News at 3:00

KABC in Los Angeles. I guess they didn’t like the move that KNBC 4 did so KABC 7 is upping their game by starting at 3:00pm, the day after Memorial Day. KABC 7 never expanded to 3:00pm when KCBS 2 had one and then later moved to KCAL 9 because they never saw them as a ratings threat. But with KNBC 4’s move, it was a move under threat for KABC 7 to take action, therefore the new hour-long 3:00pm newscast.

Wednesday June 1st, 2016

  • 10:00-11:00 PM: FOX 28 News at 10:00

WTGS in Savannah. The station will finally debut its hour-long, in-house, nightly newscast on Wednesday. It will retain the hour-long format that it was held when WJCL 22 (ABC) produced the newscast for WTGS 28, in which that produced newscast will end on Tuesday after 20 years of doing so.

That’s it for this week. We’ll do it all over again the next time this comes up. If any changes take place, social media will keep you updated on that front. Have a great week!

  1. KCBS never had a 3 p.m. newscast. Always aired on KCAL. KNBC believe it or not had a 3 p.m. newscast back in the late 80s or early 90s. It was very short lived.

  2. I think KCOP-TV 13 when they had local news had a shorted live 3:30pm afternoon newscast in the late 1990’s. I think back in the 70’s from some old LA TV Listings from that time showed that KCOP had a 2:00pm afternoon newscast. I think the old TV listings showed that KTLA sometime in the 70’s had a 2:00pm afternoon newscast.
