An expanded midday newscast is coming for Fresno’s market leader at KFSN in September.

KFSN-TV 30 / Fresno – Visalia – Merced (“ABC 30”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG (other than The Business Journal in Fresno): More midday news is coming for Fresno’s market leader and it happens in September, the busiest time in local TV news in terms of expansions and discontinuations and all of that.

Starting Monday September 12th, KFSN 30 will be expanding its current half-hour midday newscast, ABC 30 Action News – LIVE at Midday to a full hour. Currently running from 11:00-11:30am, it will soon go on air from 11:00am-12:00pm, which will allow KFSN 30 to finally compete against KMPH 26 (FOX)’s half-hour midday newscast at 11:30am and compete entirely with KSEE 24 (NBC)’s hour-long midday newscast at 11:00am.

The newscast is anchored by Jason Oliveira and Margot Kim with StormWarn 30 Weather from AMS/Membered Meteorologist Rob Bradley. They’ll handle the extra half-hour duties as well.

According to Fresno’s The Business Journal, the expanded midday newscast will make programming changes to KFSN 30. Following the expanded midday newscast, The Chew at 12:00 Noon, General Hospital at 1:00pm, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? with Chris Harrison at 2:00pm followed by the recently acquired Right This Minute at 2:30pm and then, Dr. Oz at 3:00pm in his new time slot from 2:00pm as it replaces The FAB Life which is being cancelled and WWTBAM is moving from 11:30am.

KFSN 30’s President and General Manager, Dan Adams:

“We’re very excited to expand to an hour-long newscast at 11 a.m. The expansion of ABC 30 Action News Midday reinforces our commitment to providing the best local news to our viewers in the Central Valley, whenever and wherever they are.”

  1. “First on the Blog (other than…)” means you’re not first!! That’s like running a race and saying you came in first except that one other was in front of you. That means you’re second! Stop doing this!!!

  2. I figured they would expand their midday newscast from 30 minutes to a full hour. The other ABC O&O station that still has only a 30 minute long midday newscast is KGO-TV in SFO. I am optimistic that that in the near future KGO-TV midday newscast will also expand to a full hour also.
