FIRST ON THE BLOG: You wouldn’t think that Northeastern Kansas would be home to weekend morning news. Well, actually, WIBW has done that for years. Let’s add KSNT to the mix. Amazing what this market has become.
According to what KSNT 27 has told me on their Facebook page through a PM earlier today at 2:37pm, the station has added a weekend morning newscast. The weekend edition of the KSNT Morning News airs from 5:00-7:00am and airs on both KSNT 27 and their sister station, KTKA 49. And I’ve been told that this has been on-air since Saturday April 23rd, 2016.
In terms of competition, this is the ONLY local newscast on at that time in the market, since WIBW 13 (CBS/MyTV)’s weekend morning newscasts doesn’t air until Saturdays at 8:00am and Sundays at 10:30am.
Both stations already air a weekday morning newscast from 5:00-7:00am with KSNT 27 getting the extra half-hour starting at 4:30am, which is Topeka’s ONLY newscast on at that time. As I mentioned before, the weekend morning newscast is also simulcast on KTKA 49, in which other than this, just carries one other weekend newscast: a simulcast of KSNT 27’s 10:00pm news. In fact, KTKA 49 now carries KSNT 27’s daily 5:00-7:00am and 10:00pm newscasts with a separate weeknight newscast for KTKA 49 at 5:30pm. That’s it.
But, this is great news for a fast-growing market in Topeka and Northeast Kansas. We’ll just see if viewers are up for it.
