FIRST ON THE BLOG: The Mobile – Pensacola market is about to get its fourth primetime newscast and it will come for a station that has never aired a local newscast (whether on its own or from another station, not counting simulcasts).
Starting Monday June 27th, WKRG 5 will soon produce and air a LIVE half-hour weeknight newscast at 9:00pm for its sister station WFNA 55 with CW 55 News at 9:00.
The new weeknight half-hour newscast will be anchored by Peter Albrecht with WKRG News 5 First Alert StormTeam AMS & NWA/Sealed Chief Meteorologist Alan Sealls.
As you can tell by that photo that WFNA 55 posted on Facebook (Facebook/GulfCoastCW55), new graphics and music are coming to WKRG 5, which for quite some time, has been the only station to still have the Media General News Music Package as well as graphics that resemble a social media look to it. The former traditional Media General graphics package is what looks like WKRG 5 and WFNA 55 are expected to adopt next.
This will be the market’s fourth weeknight primetime newscast at 9:00pm after long-established WALA 10 (FOX)’s hour-long newscast, WEAR 3 (ABC)’s half-hour newscast for its sister station, WFGX 35 (MyTV) and WPMI 15 (NBC)’s half-hour newscast for ITS sister station, WJTC 44 (Ind). WKRG 5 finally becomes the last station to join the ranks in do so after all three have aired primetime news on its own or on another station since at least 2013.
So good for WKRG 5 to do this for its sister station as well as finally making changes to at least adopt to the current music and former graphics that M.G. had. I’d say its about time on all fronts.
