FIRST ON THE BLOG: KOMO already delivers an hour-long 4:00pm newscast, every single weekday. And starting this weekend, 7 days a week.
Starting this Saturday, June 25th, KOMO 4 will add an hour-long 4:00pm weekend newscast. KOMO News at 4:00 on weekends will be the ONLY local weekend newscast on at that timeslot in the market. On weekdays, it competes against KING 5 (NBC) and KCPQ 13 (FOX)’s hour-long weekday newscasts in that timeslot in the market.
With this new addition, KOMO 4 will now air local news, 7 days a week at 4:00, 4:30, 5:00, 6:00 and 6:30pm. This is a rarity in local TV news in the Pacific Time Zone since most TV stations would go on at 5:00 or 6:00pm on weekends but not on at 4:00pm. In fact, the only other TV station that I can think of that deliver hour-long 4:00pm news on weekends is KABC 7 (ABC) in Los Angeles.
It’s that RARE but at the same time, most of ABC’s weekend daytime programming now ends at 5:00pm ET and most ABC stations in the East Coast are now starting to air local weekend news at 5:00pm at a time when CBS and NBC continue to air sports programming on weekends until 6:00pm. Same for the Pacific Time Zone but KABC 7 took a step further with hour-long weekend 4:00pm news and now, KOMO 4 will do the same.
So enjoy the new extra early hour, Seattleites. More weekend news is coming to the biggest market in the Northwest.
