WYFF will soon join the local 4:00 p.m. news craze as well.

WYFF 4 / Greenville – Spartanburg – Anderson, SC – Asheville, NC (“WYFF 4”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: Western Carolinas is about to have its second 4:00 p.m. newscast in the market.

Starting Monday August 22nd, 2016 (the day after the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics wrap up), WYFF 4 will be adding an hour-long weekday newscast at 4:00pm with WYFF News 4 at 4:00. The new broadcast will allow WYFF 4 to fully compete against WHNS 21 (FOX)’s hour-long weekday newscast at 4:00pm, having been on-air for almost two years at this point.

WYFF News 4 at 4:00 will be anchored by Carol Goldsmith and Gabrielle Komorowski with LIVE Super Doppler 4 Weather from AMS/Sealed Chief Meteorologist John Cessarich.

WYFF 4’s President and General Manager, John Humphries:

“WYFF 4 is constantly looking for new and innovative ways to improve how we deliver news to our viewers on all of our platforms. Whether it’s on TV, online or on a mobile device, we want to make it convenient for our viewers to watch.”

WYFF 4’s News Director, Bruce Barkley:

“We are excited about this news expansion. Our viewers look to us for news, no matter what time of the day. This 4:00 pm newscast provides a way for us to better serve them by providing additional options to get the latest breaking news and weather information.”

Because of this expansion, PROGRAMMING NOTES are needed to be said. Dr. Oz is moving to 11:00am to replace the now cancelled Meredith Vieira ShowSteve Harvey and Ellen will bump up an hour each to weekdays at 2:00 and 3:00pm, respectively. So basically, the new lineup after The Today Show and LIVE with Kelly (9:00-10:00am) is as follows starting Monday August 22nd:

  • 11:00 AM-12:00 PM: Dr. Oz
  • 12:00-12:30 PM: WYFF News 4 at Noon

  1. This seems silly and a waste of an hour, you can hardly fill the 5-6:30 slots with new stories. They often look like taped pieces from 5:00pm straight through to 6:30pm when national news comes on. I’ll turn to ch 7 often for other stories.

  2. STUPID! Enough news already. I get home at 4:00 and enjoy the Ellen show. I will refuse to watch news at 4:00 and watch news on 13 or 21 instead. I always watched Ellen and then WYFF4 news. NEVER again…
