FIRST ON THE BLOG: If you think KXRM is a growing news operation, then you’re right. Starting tomorrow, it will prove so but one has already did just this past weekend.
First, an UPDATE to tell you about. KXRM 21 has actually launched its weekend morning newscast yesterday and it airs from 5:00-7:00am under the FOX 21 Morning News. While it compete against KRDO 13 (ABC) during the 6:00am hour, its now home to the ONLY local newscast on at 5:00am in that timeslot on weekends in the market.
The weekend morning newscast is anchored by Macy Egeland with Weather from Meteorologist Maddie Kirker.
Now, the news you won’t hear ANYWHERE ELSE. KXRM 21 is scheduled to debut a new half-hour 5:00pm newscast tomorrow with FOX 21 News at 5:00. The newscast will compete against KOAA 5 (NBC) and KRDO 13 (ABC)’s already-established half-hour weeknight 5:00pm newscasts. The newscast will be anchored by Abbie Burke, who gets a nice promotion from previously being a weekend anchor at 9:00pm. Weather will be handled by Meteorologist Jeff Womack and KXRM 21 will continue to air its half-hour weeknight newscast at 6:30pm as well as at 9:00 and 10:00pm.
This becomes the second new newscast announced for the Colorado Springs market in less than a week. Just earlier last week, this blog reported and was the FIRST TO DO SO (story since picked up by TVSpy and TVNewsCheck) that KKTV 11 would shift its 6:30pm newscast and move it to 4:00pm. That begins tomorrow on that station.
But for KXRM 21, the news operation is growing and growing big to potentially be a force to be reckoned with in the future. All luck should go to KXRM 21 during this great time of theirs.
