We have another list of newscasts debuting this week and all of this would take place as NBC stations currently air the Olympics. But here is this week’s list and this is done by day, time and market size.
Monday August 8th, 2016
- 4:00-5:00 PM: NBC 5 News at 4:00
WMAQ in Chicago. Though this is not a new newscast, it does expand to a full hour starting at 4:00pm and it begins after tomorrow’s daytime Olympic coverage (In Chicago time: 9:00am-4:00pm).
- 4:00-5:00 PM: WHNT News 19 at 4:00
WHNT in Huntsville. Its the market’s second 4:00pm newscast after WAFF 48 (NBC) but this would give WHNT 19, the market’s first three-hour news block (local from 4:00-5:30, national and CBS at 5:30 and local again from 6:00-7:00pm). Steve Harvey will move to its Independent digital subchannel, WHNT 2 on 19.2.
- 4:00-4:30 PM: KKTV 11 News at 4:00
KKTV in Colorado Springs. I FIRST reported (TVSpy and TVNewsCheck has since picked up our story) that the station was moving its 6:30pm newscast to 4:00pm in order to allow a WOF-J! hour from 6:00-7:00pm. This now gives KKTV 11, a two-hour news block (local from 4:00-5:00, national and CBS at 5:00 and local again at 5:30pm).
- 5:00-5:30 PM: FOX 21 News at 5:00
KXRM in Colorado Springs. I just reported this story hours ago, but KXRM 21 is expanding once again. They launched a weekend morning newscast this past Saturday and now tomorrow, KXRM 21 launches a half-hour weeknight 5:00pm newscast, competing against KOAA 5 (NBC) and KRDO 13 (ABC) in the same timeslot in the market.
That’s basically it for this week. However, if any changes are noted, this blog will let you know on our social media channels. Have a great week and enjoy the next two weeks of Rio Olympic coverage on your local NBC station.
