FIRST ON THE BLOG: If you’re looking for another option for local news at 9:00pm in North Dakota, then look no further than WDAY who is willing to capture on that.
Starting Monday August 29th, WDAY 6 will be producing and airing a LIVE half-hour weeknight 9:00pm newscast on its two digital subchannels, the main one being known as WDAY’Z Xtra on WDAY 6.3 which carries 24-hour local weather and sports and the Justice Network on WDAY 6.4 which carries crime and justice programs, though TV listings show that it will be carried in Fargo ONLY on WDAY 6.3 and in Grand Forks on WDAZ 8.3 with the newscast also being seen on its sister stations, KBMY 17.3 and 17.4 in Bismarck and KMCY 14.3 and 14.4 in Minot. There, it also has the Justice Network on 17.4 and 14.4, but carries MyNetworkTV during primetime and therefore will carry the 9:00pm half-hour weeknight newscast there and not on WDAY 6.4 or on WDAZ 8.4.
WDAY’Z Xtra News at 9:00 will be anchored by Amy Unrau with WDAY StormTracker Weather from Meteorologist Aaron White. This will be the second 9:00pm newscast in all of North Dakota. For the Fargo/Grand Forks market, it will compete against KVRR 15 (FOX)’s already-established hour-long weeknight 9:00pm newscast, KVRR News at 9:00. In the Bismarck/Minot market, it will compete against KFYR 5.2/KMOT 8.2 (FOX)’s half-hour weeknight 9:00pm newscast, West Dakota FOX News at 9:00.
WDAY’Z Xtra will continue to simulcast all of WDAY 6’s regular newscasts, including the nightly 10:00pm newscast which will remain as always.
So yes, more local news for all of North Dakota. Enjoy, WDAY 6. Hopefully, your viewers will benefit from this.
