FIRST ON THE BLOG: WHNS has finally expanded its weekday morning newscast to compete against the big three. However, not at 4:30am like you thought it would. Instead, the station took even into a further step than that.
Since this morning, Monday August 29th, WHNS 21 has started its weekday morning newscast at 4:00am. Titled The Morning News on FOX Carolina, it has skipped the 4:30am start time like WYFF 4 (NBC), WSPA 7 (CBS) and WLOS 13 (ABC) and has decided to add another hour at 4:00am. This makes WHNS 21, the first station in the market to broadcast local morning news at 4:00am and offer a 5-hour morning newscast from 4:00-9:00am.
The whole 5-hour morning newscast is anchored by Lauren Elise and Ben Hill with FOX Carolina Weather from Meteorologist Nicole Papay and FOX Carolina Pit-Crew Traffic with Chris Scott.
The 4:00am half-hour is solely by themselves until 4:30am when it competes against the big three. From 7:00-9:00am, it competes against WYCW 62 (CW) for local news in those timeslots in the market and that newscast is produced by their sister station WSPA 7.
So yes, not at 4:30am, but at 4:00am instead! WHNS 21 took it a step further and has made it happen. Congrats to them for doing something that possibly the other stations in the market will never ever get to in the future.
