FIRST ON THE BLOG: Yet more 9:00pm news is coming to the Red River Valley and will come within two weeks time.
Starting Monday September 12th, KVLY 11 will introduce a new half-hour newscast at 9:00pm for its new CW subchannel that will debut, with the newscast, on September 12th. Titled Valley News LIVE at 9:00 on The CW (or some variation of that name), the newscast will be 7 nights a week and will be broadcast on KXJB-LD 30.2 (Horace – Fargo), which will be the new home for The CW and KVLY 11 will fill 30.1 with an HD version of KX4 from KVLY 11.2.
The newscast will be anchored by Christine Stanwood with Valley News LIVE StormTeam Weather from Meteorologist Robert Hahn.
KVLY 11’s President and General Manager, Jim Wareham:
“Research shows that people really want the weather and headlines at 9 and go to bed. The look and feel of it will be the same type of news. We want to be on as much as we possibly can so people can tune in at their convenience on their schedule.”
He also says that sports won’t have much emphasis at 9:00pm because of LIVE sporting events that will continue to take place during that particular timeslot.
In terms of competition, it will compete against the recently new half-hour 9:00pm newscast on WDAY 6’s digital subchannels on 6.3 and 6.4 plus WDAZ 8 in Grand Forks’ 8.3 and 8.4, which is a weeknight-ONLY broadcast. It will also compete against KVRR 15 (FOX)’s already-established and hour-long 9:00pm broadcast, which has been around for 16 years since 2000.
Wareham also said the 30.2 signal can also be home for a potential noon simulcast and a half-hour morning newscast from 7:00-7:30am. But KXJB-LD 30 will be CBS on 30.1 and The CW on 30.2, just to remember.
So yes, a third primetime newscast is coming and its coming soon from KVLY 11.
