FIRST ON THE BLOG: Looks like one station will FINALLY debut its own weekend morning newscast. However, it won’t be on its own station.
Starting Saturday September 10th, KCPQ 13 will add a four-hour weekend morning newscast but it will be seen on its sister station KZJO 22, home to My Network TV. Q13 FOX News This Morning on JOE TV will air on weekends from 6:00-10:00am and competition during that time is plenty.
From what I’m hearing is that Brian Flores will anchor the newscast and he is coming from KTVU 2 (FOX) in San Francisco – Oakland – San Jose. I believe this is KCPQ 13’s first-ever attempt at a weekend morning newscast. In terms of competition, it will be plenty.
On Saturdays at 6:00am, it will compete against KOMO 4 (ABC) and KING 5 (NBC). 7:00am competes against KING 5 and KIRO 7 (CBS). 8:00am competes against KOMO 4 and KING 5 plus KIRO 7 from 8:00-8:30am and then just KOMO 4 and KING 5 from 8:30-9:00am. At 9:00am, just solely against KING 5. Sundays at 6:00am competes against KOMO 4 and KIRO 7. At 7:00am, it competes against KING 5 and at 8:00am, KOMO 4 and KING 5. Once again, solely against KING 5 at 9:00am.
This will be Seattle’s first continuous four-hour weekend morning newscast on Sundays as KING 5 has done so on Saturdays for years now. And this will also mean that all four stations will produce local news on weekend mornings for the very first time.
So yes, KCPQ 13 is trying something new and hopefully, it will capitalize. Even though it would be on its sister station, KCPQ 13 is hoping Seattle’s “eyeballs” would want to watch them instead.
