FIRST ON THE BLOG: In the two years I’ve done this blog, I have never ever done a report quite like this before. Three different local stations in three different markets will all do something in common… debut local weeknight half-hour newscasts at 6:30pm on the same day. This is pretty cool.
Starting Monday September 12th, WSIL 3 in Harrisburg, IL; KLAS 8 in Las Vegas and KEYE 42 in Austin will all debut a half-hour weeknight newscast at 6:30pm. The following information breaks down like this…
- WSIL 3 will have the area’s ONLY weeknight 6:30pm newscast in the market with News 3 at 6:30. It would also create the market’s first-ever hour-long weeknight newscast at 6:00pm. Still no local news at 5:30pm in the market though.
- KLAS 8 will now have local news at 4:00, 4:30, 5:00, 6:00 and 6:30pm and will compete against KSNV 3 (NBC) and KTNV 13 (ABC) for local news at that timeslot in the market. Only KVVU 5 (FOX) won’t have a newscast in that timeslot since they’ll still going to air their entertainment show MORE Access at 6:30pm.
- KEYE 42 will also have the area’s ONLY weeknight local newscast at 6:30pm and would create a one-hour weeknight newscast at 6:00pm. This would also create a 2-hour weeknight news block for the Austin market from 5:00-7:00pm since KTBC 7 (FOX) is on at 5:00 and 5:30 and if you watch KEYE 42 after that, you’ll be able to get local news at 6:00 and 6:30pm.
So the 6:30pm trend is starting to gain some notice and these three are helping to jump start that trend. I wish them all well.
