FIRST ON THE BLOG: KSTU had a weird start time to their weekend morning newscast… 6:30am. Starting soon, it will be no longer.
Starting Saturday September 10th, KSTU 13 is expanding its weekend morning newscast to a full three hours (FINALLY, IMO). FOX 13 News – Good Day Utah is adding an extra half-hour and will broadcast on both Saturdays and Sundays from 6:00-9:00am. In terms of competition, its all alone by themselves at 6:00 and 8:00am while it competes against KUTV 2 (CBS) during the 7:00am hour. The newscast is anchored by Jennifer Stagg and Brek Bolton and was previously 6:30-9:00am.
KSTU 13’s General Manager, Tim Ermish:
“Viewers want their news at a time that is convenient for them. Providing more live news at key time periods, like weekend mornings, better serves our audience.”
According to the station, this expansion brings the number of hours of live news produced by KSTU 13 to 57.5 hours/week, which according to the station, is home to the most of any television station in the Salt Lake City television market. And I’m not sure but this may be the first time that the SLC TV market will have a 6:00am weekend morning newscast. Again, I’m not too sure since I don’t know too much the history of the market.
But yes, three hours of weekend morning news finally comes to Utah with an extra half-hour for KSTU 13. They’re on a roll, I can say.
