A small minor newscast change… #95

WJBK 2 / Detroit (“FOX 2 Detroit”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: A small minor but major expansion for the Detroit market.

Starting Monday September 12th, WJBK 2 will expand its current half-hour 6:00pm weeknight newscast to a full hour. While FOX 2 News at 6:00 competes against WDIV 4 (NBC) and WXYZ 7 (ABC), it will be all alone by themselves at 6:30pm and provide the ONLY local newscast on at that timeslot in the market.

The newscast is anchored by long-time WJBK 2 veterans Monica Gayle and Huel Perkins with FOX 2 – The Weather Authority from AMS/Sealed Chief Meteorologist Rich Luterman. This will provide a 7-night-a-week hour-long 6:00pm newscast for the station. Also, it provides Detroit with a 2-and-a-half-hour continuous weeknight news block from 5:00-7:30pm with two hours on WJBK and local news at 7:00pm from WXYZ 7.

That’s it for all the minor changes. No other major additions or expansions to report on at this time.

  1. I was looking at some old TV listings from Detroit from the early to mid 1990’s and I think the listings showed that WBJK had a 4:00pm or 4:30pm newscast back when it was a CBS station before they switched to FOX.

  2. I wonder why the CBS station in Detroit WWJ-TV does not have local news? I wonder if CBS will ever seriously invest in WWJ-TV and start a large news operation. I know in the past WWJ has tried with local news and every time they have failed. I wonder why WWJ has always failed when it comes to news?
