Bend is about to have 90 minutes of weeknight local news and that is no joke. KTVZ is adding more local newscasts and will do so at 7:00pm.

Starting Monday September 12th, KTVZ 21 will be adding a half-hour local weeknight newscast at 7:00pm. This will be the ONLY local newscast on at that time in the market with NewsChannel 21 at 7:00.

KTVZ 21 brands the newscast as “The local newscast that’s on when you need it. It’s designed for viewers who want their local television news and weather, but at a more convenient time.”

KTVZ 21’s General Manager, Bob Singer:

“Adding a 7 p.m. newscast only reaffirms our commitment to news and the people of Central Oregon. As a company we believe in localism and will continue to invest in the future of NewsChannel 21 and this community by providing quality news.”

This newscast will give the Bend market with 90-minutes of local news from 6:00-7:30pm with the 6:00 and 6:30 weeknight newscasts staying put. And one more thing, they’re giving up the WOF-J! hour at 7:00pm and will instead have Family Feud on at 7:30pm after the new local newscast.

So yes, a small market like Central Oregon (DMA #188) will have more local news targeted to their communities. Enjoy it, Central Oregon folks!
