WSMV will introduce a new midday newscast at 12:00 Noon… well sort of.

WSMV-TV 4 / Nashville (“WSMV Channel 4”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: It’s kinda hard to explain from just reading the title, but once I do explain it further, you’ll realize why the title was said like that.

Starting this Monday, WSMV 4 will be introducing a half-hour noon newscast with Channel 4 News at Noon. It will be the ONLY local newscast on at that timeslot in the market and just one of two midday newscasts in the market as WKRN 2 (ABC) also airs a half-hour midday newscast but at 11:00am. WTVF 5 (CBS) nor WZTV 17 (FOX) air any midday newscasts at all.

However, its a return of sorts for the newscast as WSMV 4 used to have a kind of newscast like this until they added some entertainment into the program, expanded it to an hour and converted it into Channel 4 News and More at Midday which ran from 12:00 Noon-1:00pm. However, WSMV 4 has moved all entertainment stuff over to its newest show called Today in Nashville which will debut on Monday at 11:00am. Therefore, WSMV 4 has decided to relaunch its midday news segments into a separate half-hour traditional newscast at 12:00 Noon. So, its a return… of sorts for the station.

The station has decided to air Millionaire? with Chris Harrison at 12:30pm instead of making it a full hour-long noon newscast. All of things begins on Monday September 12th, the first full day of the new 2016-2017 television season.

So yes WSMV 4 is getting a new half-hour midday newscast but they’ve kinda had some presence of it for a while so this is nothing new.
