FIRST ON THE BLOG: It seems like KRCG is actually expanding for once and the station that has rarely done so in the past few years will finally expand starting tomorrow.
Starting tomorrow, Monday September 19th, KRCG 13 is expanding its weekday morning newscast by an extra half-hour at 4:30am. KRCG 13 – LIVE at Sunrise at 4:30am will be the second station to do so in the market after KOMU 8 (NBC/CW) expanded to the same timeslot, years ago. They’ll compete together for local news in that timeslot in the market. This will leave KMIZ 17 (ABC) as the ONLY station in the market to continue to start its weekday morning news at 5:00am.
The newscast is anchored by Dick Preston, a long-time KRCG 13 veteran who has been there since 1968. It will also be anchored by Katie Moeller, who according to what KRCG 13 says, is a Univ. of Missouri graduate, St. Louis-area native and brand new to the station. The Weather Authority is provided by Meteorologist Zac Evans who will now provide his forecasts every 10 minutes. Another newcomer is Stephanie Hirata who’ll join the morning team as a reporter and will conduct LIVE in-studio interview segments with members of the community.
KRCG 13’s News Director, Matt Johnson:
“We’re thrilled to build on our already solid reputation as Mid-Missouri’s news leader by adding more resources to our morning newscast in an effort to bring our viewers the most up-to date breaking news and community information to help them start their brand new day.”
According to KRCG 13, they say that the revamped morning newscasts will bring more LIVE reports and extended news coverage as well as more community stories focusing on the most relevant topics happening throughout mid-Missouri.
So a new and earlier timeslot and two new people coming in to help KRCG 13 with its new and expanded weekday morning newscast. Who would’ve thought huh? At least Sinclair is providing the effort at it and we’ll see if viewers love it.
