FIRST ON THE BLOG: An extra option for a new local newscast in Northeast Arkansas is coming and its thanks to KAIT, the only local news department in that market.

Starting this upcoming Monday October 3rd, KAIT 8 will be adding a half-hour local weeknight newscast at 6:30pm for its second digital subchannel, known as NBC Region 8NBC Region 8 News at 6:30 will be the first original newscast for the NBC subchannel which debuted back in January of 2015. It will also be the ONLY local newscast on at that time in the market.

The newscast will be anchored by Allison Munn with Region 8 StormTeam Weather from AMS/Membered and NWA/Sealed Chief Meteorologist Ryan Vaughan. With this new newscast, it will discontinue the simulcast of sister station WMC 5 (NBC) in Memphis’ weeknight 6:00pm newscast and will put Entertainment Tonight in that timeslot instead at 6:00pm.

So yes, more local news for Northeast Arkansas and the NBC subchannel will get first crack at new original local news. This could be good for them in so many ways but we’ll see if viewers will tune in or tune out.
