FIRST ON THE BLOG: Look at where WXXV has come in just four short years. It will now expand to include an additional two and a half hours of local weekday news and an extra 30 minutes of Sunday news.
Starting this upcoming Monday October 10th, WXXV 25 is expanding its weekday morning newscast to a full four hours, the longest morning newscast in the market. The newscast will soon start at 5:00am on WXXV 25.2, home to NBC in which it will compete against WLOX 13 (ABC/CBS)’s 5:00am hour of its long-running Good Morning Mississippi. WXXV News 25 Today will soon air from 5:00-7:00am on 25.2 and on 25.1, the program is adding an 8:00am hour. The morning newscast will soon air from 7:00-9:00am on 25.1, the ONLY ones on at those timeslots in the market. This will make the entire morning newscast on 25.1 and 25.2, four hours from 5:00-9:00am.
But it won’t just be mornings in which WXXV 25 is expanding. Also starting Monday, WXXV 25 will be expanding its weekday 9:00pm half-hour newscast to a full hour. The newscast, WXXV News 25 at 9:00, is already the only ones on at that timeslot in the market and will soon become an hour-long newscast from 9:00-10:00pm, which will lead into the existing 10:00pm newscast seen on WXXV 25.2. This will also affect Sundays as well so starting Sunday October 16th, the Sunday edition of the 9:00pm newscast will also be a full hour as well.
Just for the record, WXXV 25 still doesn’t air any Saturday newscasts, still leaving WLOX 13 with the market’s ONLY 7-day-a-week news operation. But with these new expansions, that can soon all change in the future. And this comes months after WXXV 25 added a half-hour noon newscast and before that, last year it added two hours of weekday morning news for its 25.1 (7:00am) and 25.2 (6:00am) channels and Sunday news as well (25.1 at 9:00 and 25.2 at 10:00pm). And all within just four short years!
Its amazing what WXXV 25 has become recently and you can see its growth in your eyes. WXXV 25 is really progressing and if you didn’t think this station was giving WLOX 13, a run for its money… THINK AGAIN.
