FIRST ON THE BLOG: It seems like WNEM has made some changes in the morning, involving both its main and second channels.
Just recently, WNEM 5 has expanded its Wake-Up weekday morning newscast to 4:30am. WNEM-TV 5 News – Wake-Up at 4:30 a.m. is now the second station in the market to expand to that timeslot after WJRT 12 (ABC)’s ABC 12 News This Morning at 4:30 a.m. did so a few years ago and has long been first in the market to do so. This only leaves WEYI 25 (NBC) as the only station to still start its morning newscast at 5:00am. But this wasn’t the only change they made…
The station has also moved its hour-long 7:00am newscast on its second digital subchannel, My 5, to its main channel at 9:00am. WNEM-TV 5 News – Wake-Up at 9:00 a.m. is now the ONLY local mid-morning newscast on at that timeslot in Mid-Michigan and this was done after WEYI 25 launched a two-hour morning newscast for its sister station WSMH 66 (FOX) from 7:00-9:00am.
So to clear any confusion… its weekday morning newscast is on from 4:30-7:00 and again from 9:00-10:00am with CBS This Morning sandwiched in between from 7:00-9:00am. And don’t worry… their second digital subchannel My 5 still airs local news in form of a half-hour weeknight newscast at 7:00pm and a nightly hour-long newscast at 10:00pm.
So yes, more weekday morning news in Mid-Michigan and WNEM 5 is delivering on that front. And viewers would probably like this as well.
