FIRST ON THE BLOG: It seems like there has been some few changes that have taken place and it involves two different stations in the market.n The thing they have in common is that it involves weekday mornings.
First off, WCIA 3. The station has recently added a 9:00am hour to its morning newscast, The Morning Show. The program is now aired for a full five hours as its aired from 5:00-7:00am on WCIA 3, then from 7:00-9:00am on its sister station WCIX 49 (MyTV) and finally, another hour from 9:00-10:00am back on WCIA 3 after CBS This Morning. The 9:00am hour is the ONLY local newscast on at that time in the market.
The other station to mention is WRSP 55 and WCCU 27. Also recently, the 8:00am hour of Good Day Illinois has been cut from the station’s schedule and has been replaced by a lifestyle talk show called Good Day Marketplace which currently airs there from 8:00-9:00am. With this change, the weekday morning newscast is now only on for an hour from 7:00-8:00am. Also, this gives WCIA 3’s weekday morning newscast as the ONLY station to be on at 8:00am which is carried on its sister station WCIX 49. Just like Good Day Illinois at 7:00am, Good Day Marketplace at 8:00am is produced by their sister stations WICS 20 in Springfield and WICD 15 in Champaign (both ABC affiliates).
The only station to not experience any change in this market is WAND 17 (NBC) which has had a consistent newscast schedule for a few years now.
So yes, changes were made in the morning and it was more of an expansion than anything. A sign that this market is potentially growing.
