KSAT-TV 12 / San Antonio (“KSAT 12”)

For those in San Antonio who are looking for an extra hour of morning news because you’re up late at 9:00am, don’t need to be up until that hour or just lazy to be up in the early morning hours, then you’ll be in luck because its coming and from the market’s news leader, KSAT.

Starting Monday March 27th, KSAT 12 is scheduled to launch an extra hour of KSAT 12 News – Good Morning San Antonio and will run on weekday mornings from 9:00-10:00am, right after Good Morning America. It will be the ONLY local newscast on at that timeslot in the market and will compete against two lifestyle/entertainment shows in the market… Great Day SA on KENS 5 (CBS) and Daytime at Nine on KABB 29 (FOX) while WOAI 4 (NBC) will continue to air Today.

The newscast will be anchored by Leslie Mouton and Mark Austin with KSAT 12 – The Weather Authority from AMS-CBM/Sealed Meteorologist Justin Horne. Bosses at KSAT 12 say that while it will be traditional, it won’t be typical from many of them.

KSAT 12’s News Director, Bernice Kearney-Bonner:

“It will be different from our other newscasts, and will be perfect for college-age viewers and work-at-home moms who can’t always watch so early in the morning.”

Because of this new hour, programming changes will be made. First, LIVE with Kelly will bump back an hour to 10:00am while The View will move from 10:00 to 11:00am. After KSAT 12’s hour-long noon newscast, SA LIVE will remain in its place at 1:00pm, followed by The Chew as it moves from a one-day delay at 11:00am to a same-day airing at 2:00pm with General Hospital moving from 2:00 to 3:00pm, kicking T.D. Jakes off KSAT 12’s schedule, which is the show that currently airs at 3:00pm there.

KSAT 12’s General Manager, Phil Lane:

“We and ABC really feel these moves will shore up our daytime lineup and provide KSAT 12 viewers with more local viewing options. These are time period upgrades for ‘Live with Kelly,’ ‘The View’ and ‘The Chew.’

So another new hour of local news in San Antonio and KSAT 12 will deliver them and with programming changes all around, it could prompt more viewers to the station. But we’ll see if viewers will tune into them.

  1. I guess there are a lot of people in San Antonio that watch news at 9:00am in the morning because there will be three TV stations in the SA TV Market with 9:00am newscasts. Great Day SA on KENS-TV 5, Daytime at nine on KABB-TV 29, and now KSAT new 9:00 am newscast.

  2. With KSAT dropping T.D. Jakes from its daytime line-up, it’d be interesting to see whether it gets moved to a late-night slot on KSAT after Jimmy Kimmel and Nightline… or whether Jakes’ show gets moved to KENS, as his show is produced in association with TEGNA group.

  3. Oh yeah, just like WBAY-TV in Green Bay did with The Chew when it moved from a one-day delay to a same-day taping back in September 2015.
