An expansion of news and simulcasts from WESH and WKCF.

WESH 2 / Daytona Beach – Orlando – Melbourne (“WESH 2”)
WKCF 18 / Clermont – Orlando – Daytona Beach – Melbourne (“CW 18”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: It looks like WESH has made some changes involving its news as it expands a simulcast of its morning news and goes later now on Sundays.

Just recently, WESH 2 has expanded the simulcast of its morning news program, WESH 2 News Sunrise, to weekends on its sister station WKCF 18. The newscast is aired on WESH 2 from 5:00-8:00am and while its simulcast in full on Sundays from 5:00-8:00am, its only simulcast on Saturdays from 5:00-7:00am due to The CW’s five-hour E/I program block, One Magnificent Morning by Litton Entertainment, leaving the 7:00am hour on Saturdays exclusively to WESH 2.

In terms of competition, the 5:00am hour competes against WKMG 6 (CBS) on Saturdays and against WFTV 9 (ABC) on both Saturdays and Sundays. It continues to compete against WKMG 6 and WFTV 9 on both days while at 7:00am, its against WKMG 6 on Sundays only and WFTV 9 again on both days.

Meanwhile, WESH 2 has also recently decided to expand their 11:00pm newscast on Sundays to a full hour. This only impacts the Sunday edition of the newscast as the rest of the week is still 35 minutes. And even though it does compete against WKMG 6 and WFTV 9 for local news at that time in the market, it’s the ONLY hour-long 11:00pm newscast on any night of the week.

So it’s more news on WESH 2 and WKCF 18. Enjoy it, Central Florida.
