FIRST ON THE BLOG: A small change to report from the Roanoke area, which also serves Lynchburg and Danville.
As of last weekend, Gray’s WDBJ 7 now airs more hours of weekend morning news. Starting on Saturdays, it has shifted its 8:00am hour to 7:00am and added a 6:00am hour to the process. This means that WDBJ 7’s Saturday morning news airs from 6:00-8:00am and competes in full against Graham’s WSLS 10 (NBC)’s Virginia Today for local morning news in those timeslots in the market. Oh and its aired before CBS This Morning: Saturday, which now airs from 8:00-10:00am.
On Sundays, the 6:00-8:00am block was added and the 8:00am hour was kept. This means that the Sunday morning news airs from 6:00-9:00am and is aired before CBS News Sunday Morning. While it also competes against WSLS 10 from 6:00-8:00am on Sunday mornings, WDBJ 7 has the ONLY local newscast on at 8:00am.
Neither Sinclair’s WSET 13 (ABC) or Nexstar’s WFXT 27 (FOX) air any weekend morning news of any kind in the market. WDBJ 7’s weekend morning news is anchored by Caitlin Francis with Weather from Meteorologist Jean Louise.
There is a huge expansion coming to D.C. and that will be detailed in my next report.
