FIRST ON THE BLOG: Some small changes have taken place in two markets that I think many viewers wouldn’t notice at all.
Just recently, WCAV 19 has discontinued early-evening news on weekends. It was on Saturdays at 6:00 and Sundays at 6:30 but both have since been replaced by Talking Pictures (Saturdays) and The Hollywood News Report (Sundays), which thus leaves WVIR 29 (NBC) as the ONLY option for early-evening news on weekends which is at 6:00 p.m. on both Saturdays and Sundays. If you include Harrisonburg (even though its a separate TV market), WHSV 3 (ABC; sister to WCAV 19) provides early-evening weekend news at 6:00 p.m. and provides competition to WVIR 29 (which can also be seen in Harrisonburg as its de facto NBC affiliate through a digital translator).
However, WCAV 19 will continue to produce late news on weekends including the half-hour 10:00 p.m. newscast for its sister station WAHU 27 (FOX) and a half-hour 11:00 p.m. newscast on WCAV 19.
Another small change to note is that KCPQ 13 has shifted its weekend morning news on its sister station, KZJO 22. Previously on from 6:00-10:00 a.m., Q13 News This Morning on JOE TV has shifted an hour and is now on from 7:00-11:00 a.m., providing the Seattle market with the ONLY hour of weekend morning news at 10:00 a.m. The station has since started airing what appaears to be a half-hour trending show at 6:30 a.m. called Q13 News This Morning with Kaci and Travis that focuses on trending moments from social media which is completely unrelated to the four-hour newscast that follows it.
Other than that, there are no other major additions or expansions to report on at this time.
