FIRST ON THE BLOG: Apparently when sister station WICU in Erie launched weekend morning news in September of last year, WENY decided to do the same as well. And NOBODY NOTICED. But it will be now.
Since last September, WENY 36 has provided a weekend morning newscast for the Twin Tiers. WENY News – Good Morning Twin Tiers now airs on weekends as well. The program airs as an hour-long newscast from 7:00-8:00 a.m. and is the ONLY weekend morning newscast on-air in the Twin Tiers as WETM 18 (NBC/Ind) currently doesn’t provide that and WYDC 48 (FOX) doesn’t even have a functioning news department besides a 10-minute update on weeknights at 10:00 p.m. It airs on Saturdays on its main channel, known as WENY ABC and on Sundays, it airs on the main channel and on digital subchannel 36.2, home to WENY CBS.
The program is anchored and produced Cody Carlson with WENY News – First Warning Weather from Meteorologist Ryan Belz. A good note to mention also is that this is WENY 36’s ONLY weekend newscast as it doesn’t provide early-evening or late news on weekends.
This came around the same time that WICU 12, its sister station out of Erie, launched its own weekend morning news from 8:00-9:00 a.m.
So a whole lot more weekend morning news is coming across the nation and the Twin Tiers became its next stop.
