FIRST ON THE BLOG: A small change to report tonight and its actually an expansion that’s coming next week.
Starting next Monday, July 31st, WRC 4 will be expanding its weekday morning newscast to start a half-hour earlier. Currently airing from 4:30-7:00 a.m., the weekday editions of News 4 Today will soon start at 4:00 a.m. Yep, it will air for three full hours and will become the first and when it does so, the ONLY station in the D.C. market to start airing its local morning news at 4:00 a.m. while everyone else will start at 4:30 a.m. (NewsChannel 8 starts its simulcast of sister station WJLA 7 – ABC’s weekday morning news at 6:00 a.m.)
Within the NBC O&O family, it will join WMAQ 5 in Chicago as the only NBC O&O’s to air its local morning news starting at 4:00 a.m. WCAU 10 used to do so as late as last year, but has since pulled out from airing there.
There is a shift and an expansion in a particular newscast in a different market in a different state that’s coming next week as well and details about that will be released in my next report.
