FIRST ON THE BLOG: Roanoke and Lynchburg are about to have its first taste of local news in the afternoon.
Starting Monday, September 4th, WDBJ 7 will give afternoons a chance for local news with a new weekday one-hour newscast called 7 at 4:00. It will be a traditional newscast with the latest news and weather and it will be the first and ONLY local newscast in the area, since WSLS 10 (NBC) and WSET 13 (ABC) will continue to start at 5:00 p.m. while WFXR 27 (FOX) doesn’t air weeknight early-evening news at all.
The newscast will be anchored by a three-person team: Jean Jadhon, Melissa Gaona and Logan Sherrill. Weather will be provided by AMS/Sealed Chief Meteorologist Brent Watts.
WDBJ 7’s News Director, David Hughes:
“We are excited to jump start the afternoons for our viewers with the quality of news they expect from WDBJ 7. But that’s just the beginning. 7 at 4:00 will also have segments you don’t see anywhere else, like our on-the-road series with Melissa and Logan we call “Hometown Adventures.” We can’t wait to get going.”
WDBJ 7’s Vice President and General Manager, Matt Pumo:
“Our viewers expect us to break ground. We did it with AIR 7, the first drone used for broadcast newsgathering in our area. We did it with Your Hometown Patio, the first outdoor studio in the region. Your Hometown Station will now be first again, this time with local news in the afternoon.”
So there you go. Local news in the afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at DMA #67. This will be very interesting indeed and we’ll see if viewers will tune in for that.
