FIRST ON THE BLOG: Get ready for earlier news in Chattanooga, Southern East Tennessee and Northwest Georgia with a “First” for the market.
Starting in the Fall, WRCB 3 will be adding an hour-long 4:00 p.m. newscast called Channel 3 Eyewitness News – First at 4:00. It will be the first and the ONLY local station to air news at 4:00 p.m. in the market.
David Carroll and Cindy Sexton will anchor the hour-long newscast which is in addition to their current duties of anchoring Channel 3 Eyewitness News – LIVE at 5:00 and Channel 3 Eyewitness News at 6:00. (LaTrice Currie joins David Carroll for Channel 3 Eyewitness News – LIVE at 5:30). Channel 3 Storm Alert Weather‘s AMS-CBM/Sealed Meteorologist Brittany Beggs will deliver the weather at 4:00 and will join the hour-long Channel 3 Eyewitness News at Noon to deliver the forecasts there as well.
Tom Tolar, WRCB’s President and General Manager:
“We know that the Tennessee Valley counts on us when news breaks or severe weather threatens our area. This expansion reflects our ongoing commitment to providing local programming that the Tennessee Valley expects from our experienced staff of journalists.”
Callie Starnes, WRCB’s News Director:
“Not only are we expanding on-air, we are … adding additional resources to our newsroom to ensure our team is the first viewers turn to in the afternoons.”
Due to this new addition, a programming change to note. The Ellen DeGeneres Show will move from 4:00 to 3:00 p.m., more likely replacing Crime Watch Daily, once the new newscast debuts. Plus, WRCB will now deliver two and a half hours of local news every weekday from 4:00-6:30 p.m., the ONLY station in the market to do so.
So when it comes to news, it seems like WRCB is the place to be, especially if folks want their news earlier and not wait till later for it. We’ll see if this goes well.
