A small minor newscast change… #288.

WNYW 5 / New York City (“FOX 5”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: It took a year but WNYW has finally done this yesterday (Monday). Another midday change to note and this time, from the biggest market in the country.

Since Monday, September 9th, WNYW 5 has added a half-hour newscast at 12:00 noon called The Noon. Despite the name sounding more like for a social media-focused newscast, its actually a traditional newscast featuring local news and weather. Also, yes… its the first midday newscast attempted by WNYW in a decade when the station used to have FOX 5 LIVE first at 11:00 a.m. and then at noon.

This newscast now competes against the other three midday newscasts in the market from WCBS 2 (half-hour at noon), WNBC 4 (half-hour at 11:00 a.m.) and WABC 7 (noon and the ONLY one that’s an hour-long) as well as newscasts from cable-only channels Spectrum News NY1 and News 12 (L.I., N.J., H.V., WC, Conn., Bnx and Brklyn).

Plans for something like this were up for months, actually for almost a year now but it came with no avail but now, WNYW has stepped forward into the midday news game in the biggest city in the country.

There is still more to tell you about so stay tuned to the blog for more stories and information.

  1. I think WNYW was suppose to get a noon newscast back in the fall of 2018. I don’t know what happened for WNYW to move the start of their noon news a year later
