FIRST ON THE BLOG: If your looking for another option for local news at noon in the Twin Cities, I would’ve said that you’d be out of luck since its only WCCO. However, that’s changing.
Starting next Monday, September 16th, KSTP 5 will be adding an hour-long midday newscast at 12:00 noon over on its sister station, KSTC 45. 5 Eyewitness News at Noon on 45TV will compete against WCCO 4 (CBS; half-hour) but it will be the ONLY hour-long noon newscast in the market from 12:00-1:00 p.m.
The additional midday newscast on KSTC will be anchored by Matt Belanger and longtime 15-year veteran of KSTP, anchor and reporter Leah McLean.
KSTP and KSTC’s News Director, Kirk Varner:
“We’re very pleased to bring the midday news viewers the latest 5 Eyewitness News both at 11 a.m. and now an additional hour at noon on 45TV. These two newscasts make it more convenient than ever to get the latest news and weather updates during the lunch hour.”
According to TV listings, this new hour will replace two episodes of Right This Minute at the 12:00 noon hour.
So kinda exciting about this format but something IMO this market should’ve had for a long time now.
