A small minor newscast change… #289.

WCCB 18 / Charlotte (“WCCB Charlotte’s CW”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: A small change to report on from the Charlotte market.

Since this past Saturday, September 7th, WCCB 18 has expanded its half-hour Saturday news at 6:00 p.m. to a full hour. WCCB News at 6:00 is now on Saturdays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. but remains as a half-hour newscast on Sundays from 6:00-6:30 p.m.

WCCB, however, doesn’t air one on weeknights as it handles master control and other duties during newscasts for sister station WOLO 25 (ABC) in Columbia, especially its weeknight 5:00, 5:30, 6:00 and 11:00 p.m. newscasts.

In terms of competition on Saturdays, it competes against the other stations in the market… WBTV 3 (CBS; half-hour), WSOC 9 (ABC; half-hour), WCNC 36 (NBC; half-hour) and WJZY 46 (FOX; hour-long) for local news at that time.

There could be something brewing up in Wichita and I’ll detail it in my next post so stay tuned to the blog for more.

  1. WCCB should be a more entertainment station and have less emphasis on news. If they wanted to they can sign off Sat. and Sun. mornings at 1 until 6. End result, less infomercials. HOORAY!
