Are some NBC’s O&O stations, adding 4:00 p.m. newscasts? That’s a possibility.

NBC Owned Television Stations (KNBC 4, KNSD 39, KNTV 11, WVIT 30, WRC 4, WTVJ 6, WMAQ 5, WNBC 4, WCAU 10, KXAS 5 and NECN)

RUMORS ONLYFTVLive (awesome site, btw! Scott Jones does an unbelievable job with that site. Its amazing and recommended under my Links tab) got a scoop on this story earlier today and I’ll be posting it, but as rumors only as nothing’s been confirmed by local stations as of yet.

Changes in the DFW market… a cut-down and an addition.

KXAS-TV 5 / Ft. Worth – Dallas (“NBC 5”)
WFAA-TV 8 / Dallas-Ft. Worth (“WFAA-TV Channel 8”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: There are recent changes to the DFW market and one of those changes started yesterday, thanks to a tip from Dontryl. Thank you Dontryl for the tip! First, let me staff off with the cut-down.

KXAS 5 has cut-down their Sunday 10:00 p.m. newscast to a half-hour again. It was an hour long, but is now a half-hour again as it now airs Big Game Sunday with Newy Scruggs and Pat Doney. This leaves KTVT 11 as the ONLY station to air an hour-long 10:00 p.m. newscast on Sunday nights.

This is the tip that Dontryl game me… As of January 17th, 2015 (yesterday as of this post), WFAA 8 has added a 5:00 p.m. newscast on Saturdays. News 8 at 5:00 is a half-hour broadcast and is now on from Mondays-Saturdays and is the ONLY big 4 station in DFW to air a 5:00 p.m. newscast on Saturday nights, even though it will now compete against KDAF 33’s CW 33 NewsFix at 5:00 (hour-long) for 5:00 p.m. news on Saturdays.

I like what I see in DFW. These are good move by these stations, respectively. I like sports coverage on Sunday nights while also having earlier news on Saturdays. It’s a win-win for me, even though I don’t live in the DFW area.

A simulcast was added for KXAS 5’s NBC 5 News Today at 5:00 a.m. and NBC 5 News Midday at 11:00 a.m. They are both now also seen on KXAS 5’s digital subchannel Cozi TV DFW on KXAS-DT 5.2.
