Newscasts debuting this week… Edition #16.

We are heading into Late April and more newscasts, continue to be added. Here is this week’s list and in time order.

Monday April 20th, 2015

  • 4:30-5:00 AM: News 13 This Morning at 4:30 a.m.

WBTW in Myrtle Beach-Florence. The station will become the first and ONLY station in the market to start at 4:30 a.m. The station is also making another addition that day. Details later in this post.

  • 4:00-4:30 AM: KTVU Mornings on 2 at 4:00 a.m.

KTVU in San Francisco. This becomes just the third FOX O&O station to air local morning news in that timeslot and will compete against KRON 4 in that timeslot.

  • 9:00-10:00 AM: News 13 NOW at 9:00 a.m.

WBTW in Myrtle Beach-Florence. Again, the first and ONLY morning newscast at 9:00 a.m. in the market.

  • 5:00-6:00 PM: ABC News 4 at 5:00

WCIV in Charleston. The first time WCIV 4 will air local news at 5:00 p.m. since 2002 when it was canceled. The station will debut a new look, because of the new newscast. And a new logo will be introduced as well.

  • 6:00-6:30 PM: PIX 11 News at 6:00

WPIX in New York City. The station will air a 6:00 p.m. newscast to compete against the BIG leagues on the other four local stations. And no, it’s not an hour-long newscast at 6:00 p.m. as its only a half-hour newscast.

  • 3:00-4:00 PM: The Refresh – Las Vegas

KSNV in Las Vegas. The show, which originally came from KUTV 2 in Salt Lake City, makes its first expansion to KSNV 3. The newscast replaces the traditional newscasts that it originally held in that timeslot.

  • 4:30-5:00 PM: KOLO 8 News NOW at 4:30

KOLO in Reno. The station will become the ONLY station in the market with a 90-minute news block from 4:30-6:00 p.m. and home to the ONLY local newscast at 4:30 p.m., since KTVN 2 starts at 5:00 and KRNV 4’s 4:00 p.m. newscast is only a half-hour.

That’s the additions for this week. Have a great week, everybody!

WCIV is adding an hour-long weeknight newscast at 5:00 p.m.

WCIV 36.2 / Charleston (“ABC News 4”)

FIRST ON THE BLOG: Another story that will be FIRST on The Changing Newscasts Blog and for the first time in what seems like a long, long time, WCIV will be adding a newscast.

A user on TVNewsTalk mentioned in a post that WCIV 4 was adding a 5:00 p.m. newscast and I had to check to make sure it was true. And it looks like… yes. It is true.

Starting April 20th, WCIV 4 will be adding an hour-long 5:00 p.m. newscast with ABC News 4 at 5:00. The newscast will be fully competing against WCBD 2’s News 2 at 5:00 and WCSC 5 (the #1 market leader)’s LIVE 5 News at 5:00/5:30 for local news in that timeslot. Dean Stephens and Victoria Hansen, two of the station’s long-time veterans, are the more likely choices to anchor the new 5:00 p.m. newscast, on top of their 6:00, 7:00 and 11:00 p.m. anchoring duties. And yes, the station will keep its 7:00 p.m. newscast.

According to that TVNewsTalk user, this is the first time the station is broadcasting local news at 5:00 p.m. since 2002. New owners at Sinclair are now putting money into the station and adding a 5:00 p.m. newscast is the first step into what could probably lead into the right direction for the station.

I say, good for them and its about time they are doing so! This is long overdue and I’m glad for the S.C. Lowcountry who will be receiving this.
